Staying at Great Camp Sagamore
Great Camp Sagamore is a National Historic Landmark, built in 1897, that is preserved, maintained, and operated entirely by the Sagamore Institute of the Adirondacks, a private 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization. As a not-for-profit, Sagamore has a small, friendly, and extremely capable staff supporting our programs, activities and guests. As a National Historic Landmark, we are required and committed to preserving and maintaining Sagamore as closely as possible to the original architecture, property, and history. Supplemental fundraising and grant writing initiatives contribute to keeping this unique historic property accessible to the public for day access and overnight programs/stays.
Overnight guests at Great Camp Sagamore will experience:
Comfortable lodging in an historic building
All the buildings and guest rooms that were in use by the Vanderbilt’s and their guests are available to our current guests.
Delicious meals in the historic Dining Hall overlooking Sagamore Lake. Meals are served buffet style with many food options available. Our communal style seating fosters engaging conversations and community building.
A daily menu of optional activities including twice daily history tours, guided hikes and paddles, and bowling in the Vanderbilt’s 1914 open-air bowling alley.
Access to our full compliment of recreational amenities including the historic boathouse and its watercraft (canoes, kayaks, paddle boards & guide boats), croquet and other lawn games, book collections, and board games and puzzles.
The natural beauty of the Adirondack Park Preserve, including over 12 miles of lovingly-maintained trails and woods immediately surrounding Great Camp Sagamore.
A helpful, dedicated and informative staff committed to providing a special experience in one of the only Adirondack “Great Camps” open to all.
As a private not-for-profit and National Historic Landmark, Great Camp Sagamore is not a resort. As such, you will not find valet parking, staff to carry your bags, room service, nor daily housekeeping.
