Executive Director – Great Camp Sagamore
Great Camp Sagamore (GCS) seeks an Executive Director for this non-profit and steward of the former wilderness retreat of the Vanderbilt family. Located deep in the Adirondack Park, GCS exists to preserve the 27 buildings and landscape of this National Historic Landmark and operate historic tours and residential educational programming. The non-profit works year-round, onsite and remotely, but GCS is currently open to the public only from May to October.
The Executive Director manages a small team of year-round staff and roughly 25 seasonal staff, while reporting to a Board of Trustees. Areas of responsibility include historic preservation, educational programming, museum and hotel administration, historic interpretation, hospitality, finance, facilities management, development and fundraising. The Executive Director leads the organization and makes the historic resources available for the benefit of public knowledge, experience and enjoyment. Compensation is competitive and onsite housing is provided in the landmark. When GCS is open to the public, board is provided.
Successful candidates love what GCS has become and want to make it an essential historical and educational institution in the United States. Experience in non-profit management, hotel administration, historic preservation, and educational institutions are all positives. Strong writing, public speaking and computer skills; management and fundraising aptitude; love for the wilderness; and a dedication to GCS and the Adirondacks, are required.

Join the culinary team at Great Camp Sagamore as one of our Sous Chefs. You will be second in command to the Head Chef, working to plan and execute an imaginative, high-quality menu for our guests. You will help in a supervisory capacity over the breakfast and prep chef, as well as kitchen interns. You will manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence. Candidates should have mastered basic professional kitchen skills. Culinary degrees and professional experience will be regarded along with an excellent work ethic, a willingness to learn and follow directions, and a commitment to lift our culinary program to the next level. Our own commitment to this endeavor is demonstrated by a complete state-of-the-art renovation of our kitchen, taking place as we speak.

Sagamore's season runs from late May through Mid-October. Housing is on site at Great Camp Sagamore, a National Historic Landmark. Is looking for a Head Housekeeper and staff to help us maintain our beautiful National Historic Landmark property in the midst of thousands of acres of Adirondack forest preserve land. Sagamore is located on its own lake with hiking, paddling and mountain biking opportunities at our doorstep. The vibe at camp is a great group of people working together to make sure our guests learn and relax in the clear, balsam scented air and plenty of great food created by our chefs.
Clean guest and meeting rooms and set up for incoming programs, work with staff to maintain public areas including lounges, porches and restrooms to highest standards. Duties include vacuuming, emptying trash, making beds, cleaning bathrooms and assisting with loading laundry. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Are self-starters who are dependable and enthusiastic and who enjoy working with the tight-knit group of guests and staff at Sagamore. Must enjoy being in a wilderness area with more bears, loons and moose than humans.

Sagamore Crew Members
Great Camp Sagamore, a National Historic Landmark institution is now looking for Crew Members. Our Crew is responsible for providing a warm, welcoming and safe atmosphere for all guests. This includes participating in programming as well as maintaining the neatness and cleanliness of facility grounds and buildings as well as the setup, serving, and cleanup of meals.
Crew members help to implement programs and lead activities with guests as well as help with our camp operations. There are two types of crew members, the Program Crew members who focus on environmental and outdoor educational activities while the Historic Tour Guides lead daily walking tours of our National Historic Landmark campus. Content, safety and operational training is part of our orientation experience.
Sagamore is located in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains in Raquette Lake, NY. We are surrounded by over 100,000 acres of designated wilderness and wild forest to hike, paddle or mountain bike. A short distance away are major cultural attractions like the Adirondack Experience museum, the Wild Center and the Lake Placid area. All staff members receive passes to area attractions to enjoy on their days off.
This is a full-time, seasonal, non-exempt, hourly position that is available from June through October. The standard work schedule is eight hours per day, five days per week. Days off are arranged so that employees have two days off in a row and have time to pursue their own interests.
Position runs from June through October, 2019. Compensation includes room and board in our historic rooms and full use of the recreational facilities.
