Featured Presenter

Connor Williams

Connor Williams, Great Camp Sagamore’s Historian, will present on notable visitors who came to Sagamore during the Vanderbilt Era. He has formally trained at institutions throughout the Northeast, including a B.A. in History from Middlebury College, an M.A. in Globalization Studies from Dartmouth College, and a soon-forthcoming Ph.D in History and African American Studies from Yale University. As a public historian, he is pleased to have had many years of teaching and public history experience, including service to the United States Congress. As a New Yorker born in Saratoga County and now a year-round resident of the Adirondack Park, he continues to enjoy establishing his Adirondack bona fides, including approaching the achievement of 46er status and searching out every swimming hole and waterfall that the Blue Line holds.

Friday Evening
Check-in runs from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Collins Building. A reception with beer, cider, and light snacks at the barn kicks off the weekend. Our chef will prepare a generous barbeque-style dinner with a variety of sides and a tasty dessert. Right after dinner, we’ll settle in for camp orientation and a barn dance led by John Kirk and Trish Miller.

Saturday Morning
Weather-permitting, early-risers will kick off the day with a guided sunrise canoe paddle on scenic Sagamore Lake. Breakfast will be served in the dining hall. After breakfast, take a historic tour of Great Camp Sagamore, hike to Raquette Lake South Inlet with a guide, or try your hand at croquet or badminton, two games that were favored by Sagamore’s historic guests.

Saturday Afternoon
In the early afternoon, an exclusive tour of Great Camp Uncas will be offered. Uncas was William West Durant’s second great camp and former wilderness retreat of J.P. Morgan. After the tour, sign up for competitive bowling or croquet matches if you please, in the true spirit of Margaret (Emerson) Vanderbilt. Cocktail hour on the Main Lodge porch before dinner with music by Evan and Becky Behre.
