Join your fellow quilters and knitters at Great Camp Sagamore. Enjoy studio time in an inspiring, relaxing, and enjoyable environment where creativity is shared. Bring your current quilting or knitting project, UFO (unfinished object) or those quilts that need binding. The schedule is flexible, with the opportunity to be part of either group.
Quilters minimum skill level required: Confident beginner, able to sew an accurate ¼” seam and familiar with quilting rulers and rotary cutter.

Quilters: This year’s theme is scrappy quilts and there will also be 2 optional ½ day workshops offered: one on the foundation pieced crazy quilt technique and a second workshop will focus on 9 patch variations including a basic 9 patch, a split nine patch and a simplified split 9 patch.
Knitters: We will be hosting an open studio/tech support time. Do you have a project your have been struggling with? Looking for inspiration? The last day of camp we will be working on a charity project. The project will be knitting bulky Holiday stockings that will be donated to a charity TBD.
The program includes an evening of songs celebrating quilting and the Adirondacks with Peggy Lynn, sharing knitted projects/quilts, creativity and stories.
We can also lead walks and canoe/kayak paddles if there is interest.
Historic tour of Sagamore is also an option
Course Instructors
Pat Burdick
I started quilting over 20 years ago when my son asked me to make him a log cabin quilt for his graduation gift. I especially enjoy using traditional blocks in my own designs, making a variety of quilts for family members and for fund raisers for various not for profit organizations including Great Camp Sagamore and the Adirondack Visitor Interpretive Centers. Many of these quilts are designed to feature Adirondack plants and animals. I’ve been involved with Sagamore for many years; teaching quilting classes, leading their Intergenerational Camps and as a work weekend volunteer. I look forward to sharing my love of quilting and Sagamore with you during this quilting program.
Terri Burdick
I first came to Sagamore in a blizzard over 25 years ago for a program on animal tracking in winter. I love traditional arts and regional history so Sagamore was a perfect fit. I would soon talk Pat and her daughter into volunteering for Sagamore and we cherish many memories of volunteer work weekends and the people we met and worked with.
In 2004 Sagamore’s volunteer quilters group decided to design a unique quilt for Sagamore’s annual fundraiser. Pat and I were tasked with designing the quilt, the group gathered to piece the top, Pat and I hand quilted it. The quilt was a success and Pat and I have been designing quilts small and large ever since. I recently retired and am enjoying the extra time to quilt, coming up with new ideas all the time and look forward to sharing the creative process with you.
Peggy Lynn
Peggy Lynn, singer, songwriter, and educator, brings an infectious enthusiasm to all her endeavors. Peggy ranges from folksy to blues with equal ease, alone or harmonizing with others. With a sultry, yet powerful alto voice, Peggy gives a clear message of the passion underlying her songs. While her style and range give meaning and emotion to all her work, her most powerful message is for the contributions and burdens of women. Peggy will lead the group in leaf identification, nature hikes and music.
Jen McAvoy, Knitting Instructor
I started knitting in my 20s after watching people around me create all these amazing things. It all started with a ribbed purple scarf, which I still own. That simple scarf was just the beginning of my knitting adventure. Exploring hats, scarves, socks, shawls, sweaters, different textures, and stitches. I love playing with colors and different fibers. I have taught knitting classes at my local library and have been knitting “tech support” at my mother’s yarn and fabric shop. When I am not knitting you can find me hiking in the ADK or playing tai chi.
