Announcing Grands Camp Counselors in Training!
Do you know a teenager who has “aged-out” of Grands Camp?
We are recruiting past campers ages 15-17 for this exciting leadership opportunity. Counselors in Training (CITs) will attend Sagamore’s famous Grands Camp and help to ensure the smooth operation of the program in this volunteer position. This year’s dates are Sunday, July 14 – Friday, July 19.
One CIT will be assigned to each group of campers to help lead younger participants throughout the week. Duties include:
Scan the room and provide help where needed during arts & crafts sessions.
Be the sweep during guided walks to make sure nobody is left behind.
Help assign paddles and life jackets during canoe programs.
During canoe tours, share a boat with less experienced paddlers.
Help pass out instruments during music lessons.
Set up for Kid’s Club and assist interns with organizing activities.
Set out games and toys for after dinner lawn watch.
Help disperse s’mores materials at the campfire.
Aid the Program Staff with set up for Creativity night, the concert, and other events.
A training in the afternoon on Sunday, July 14 before camp begins will guide CITs as they step into this leadership role. While being at Sagamore for Grands Camp is a valuable experience by itself, CITs will develop skills in time management, work responsibility, and programming for children. They will have the opportunity to develop professional relationships with Sagamore staff and our renowned instructors.
Meals and housing in the Collins building will be provided for CITs during Grands Camp thanks to a scholarship that we are establishing for this program. There is space for three Counselors in Training for our 2019 Grands Camp.
Applicants should send an essay explaining what Grands Camp at Sagamore means to them and why they want to be a CIT addressed to Jen Maguder, Program Director at GCS. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 26. Applications may be sent via email to jmaguder@greatcampsagamore.
We are looking forward to the launch of this exciting program! Please contact us at (315) 354-5311 ext. 1034 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions about our new opportunity.
